Gino's East using kiosks for mail-order pizzas

June 23, 2004

CHICAGO—Legendary Chicago-style pizzeria chain Gino's East is using electronic kiosks to sell frozen pizza.

According to a news release, a pair of Insight 360 Degrees touchscreen kiosks, located at its N. Wells pizzeria in Downtown Chicago, allow customers to order pizzas for shipping by mail.

Jeffrey Himmel, president of Gino's East Restaurant Corp., said the convenient, easy-to-use kiosks are great for gift buyers.

"We have so many people who come into the restaurant and are disappointed they can't take their favorite Chicago pizza home with them," said Himmel. "Now, instead of the hassle of trying to take a bunch of frozen pizzas on the plane with them, they can have them shipped right to their house."

Dave Milazzo, vice president, marketing and sales for Insight 360 Degrees, said the company spent more than 12 months developing the mail-order kiosk system. A key aim was to make a kiosk that customers with little or no computer experience could use.

"The colorful graphics, large buttons and incredibly smooth-flowing process allow a shopper to complete a transaction in an average of only four minutes," said Milazzo.

By touching just a few buttons on the kiosk screen, Gino's customers can locate any listed address in the U.S., choose the delivery date of their gifts and even include a personalized message with the package.

If the shopper needs to make changes in his order, a unique "Review" page allows for editing.

The kiosks accept major credit cards, and customers aren't charged until the pizza is shipped. All gift package prices include FedEx delivery charges.

Customers can select a 3 Pizza Pack ($69.95) or a 4 Pizza Pack ($79.95), offering a choice of any three or four 11-inch Gino's East cheese, pepperoni, sausage or spinach deep-dish pizzas. The pizzas arrive frozen, complete with easy preparation instructions.
