The Island Packet: For 20 years, visitors to Giuseppi's Pizza on Hilton Head Island, S.C., have casually asked founder Steve Carb if he'd ever franchise his restaurant. When he suggested they submit a business plan, Carb found that the casual inquiries and half-baked offers were forgotten by the time the returning vacationers crossed the bridge to the mainland.
"Then 15 years later we got a serious offer," Carb said.
In early December, Giuseppi's Pizza, with restaurants on Hilton Head and in Greater Bluffton, will enter the franchise market when Robert Brown, a longtime Giuseppi's customer with nearly 20 years of experience in the restaurant business, opens a Giuseppi's in Acworth, Ga., a small town about 35 miles northwest of Atlanta.
"We've had numerous requests to open in other places," Carb said.
