Godfather's sues hotel over blocked phone dialing

September 22, 2003

ALTOONA, Iowa — Owners of the Godfather's Pizza delivered a lawsuit alleging a hotel across the street unfairly kept patrons from ordering its pizza.

The Des Moines Register reported the restaurant received complaints from guests at the Adventureland Inn about their inability to contact the restaurant.

Owners of the restaurant claim the inn improperly blocked guests from calling the restaurant to deter people from dining beyond the hotel doors.

Court papers name seven patrons who visited the inn on various dates and were unable to call Godfather's from the telephones in their rooms. Adventureland "has previously been requested to stop said action, but it has continued despite the request," court papers allege.

Lawyers representing the restaurant and the inn refused to comment, other than to note Adventureland Inn sells its own pizza.

Inn officials argue in court papers the lawsuit should be thrown out because nothing in the law says Godfather's "is possessed of some right to require that defendant permit the use of its facilities for the procurement of food from its competitors."
