The pizzaiolo who handed out pandemic-born pizzas out of his apartment with a rope to friends on the street is donating his concept to Philabundance, a hunger-relief organization, according to a report in The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Ben Berman used his time during COVID-19 holed up in his Philadelphia apartment to make pizzas. He'd hand them out of his second-floor apartment using a rope, and donated any money he received to charity. The concept gained his national attention.

Berman called his idea Good Pizza and raised a total of $75,000 for non-profits. In May 2021, he left Philadelphia for New York to start a new career.

Now he's donating his concept to a hunger-relief organization. The Philabundance Community Kitchen will carry on the idea, baking 20 pizzas available to winners of a drawing via a website. The drawing will be held Feb. 28 with pizzas going out for takeout or delivery on March 2. The organization will accept donations for the pizzas, which are suggested to start at $20.

"This is just a pilot. We have to see if there's an appetite for it," Loree D. Jones, Philabundance CEO, told the news outlet.
