Large California Pizza Kitchen shareholder halves stake

September 17, 2003

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Ronald Baron, one of the largest shareholders of California Pizza Kitchen (CPK) stock, halved the number of his common shares in the company in early August.

According to Dow Jones Newswires, documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission show Baron now holds a 4.1 percent stake in the pizza restaurant chain, down from the 8.5 percent stake he reported owning in February.

Like the company's same-store sales, CPK stock has struggled throughout 2003. Year to date, its share price has fallen nearly 34 percent from a high of $26.57 in January, to a low of $16.25 in July. On Aug. 13, shares sold for $17.75 in early trading.
