Lawsuit claims pizza contained broken glass

December 26, 2002

CHICAGO -- A woman is suing Highland Park's Viccino's Pizza Co., claiming she suffered severe injuries to her teeth and mouth when she bit into a slice of pizza that contained broken glass.

Carol Shedlin, 57, has accused the pizzeria of failing to inspect ingredients that went into her pizza on June 16 and not removing the glass, according to Chicago's Daily Herald. The lawsuit was filed in mid-December in Lake County Circuit Court.

The suit seeks more than $50,000 in damages from Viccino's. Bret Hetrick, who operates five Viccino's stores on the North Shore, couldn't be reached for comment.

Viccino's is known for its gourmet pizzas, which carry toppings including goat cheese, scallops and pine nuts.
