Marco's ditches carbs with build-your-own pizza bowls

Marco's Pizza has added Build-Your-Own Pizza Bowls to the menu. The item, which follows the brand's debut of bowls last March, provides a crustless pizza baked in a bowl with Marco's original sauce recipe, three cheeses and a choice of up to four toppings for $7.99, a news release said.

The bowls were designed for customers who follow a higher-protein, lower-carb diet. It joins its crustless pizza siblings, including the Deluxe, All Meat and Garden Specialty pizza bowls.

"Adapting to consumer trends is part of our DNA and this carb-cutting alternative proved to be a bold and refreshing move in our category, so we leaned in," Andy Dismore, Marco's senior director of Culinary Innovation, said in the releases. "No one can match our original sauce, signature cheese and high-quality toppings baked into a delicious, crustless pizza experience."

Marco's, based in Toledo, Ohio, has more then 1,000 stores in 34 states with locations in Puerto Rico and the Bahamas.
