Marco's Pizza has launched a new series of ads promoting its "Ah!thentic Italian pizza" tag line.
In the ads, the company, which is headquartered in Toledo, Ohio, embraces its Italian heritage created by founder Pasquale "Pat" Giammarco, who was born in Italy and relocated to the U.S. when he was 9 years old.
Marco's also takes a swipe at the "big three" – Pizza Hut, Domino's and Papa John's – and their lack of Italian roots. The three chains were founded by Midwestern entrepreneurs Tom Monaghan (from Ann Arbor, Mich.); Dan and Frank Carney (from Wichita, Kan.); and John Schnatter (from Jeffersonville, Ind.).
According to AdWeek, the three ads were produced by MGH in Baltimore. The trade publication said the "low-budget foray does a good job separating Marco's from the pack, which is good, since the chain is reportedly looking to grow from 260 stores to more than 1,500."
