TOLEDO, Ohio — Marco's Pizza acquired nine Indianapolis-area units from Louisville, Ky.-based Pizza Magia on May 2. It plans to re-badge and reopen the stores under the Marco's name by June 1.
According to a news release, the acquisition will bring Marco's Indy market store count to 16, putting it nearly halfway toward its goal of 35.
"The opportunity to acquire these locations corresponds with our plans to add 70 units in Indiana," said Jack Butorac, Jr., president of Marco's Franchising.
More than 200 employees currently working at the Pizza Magia stores will remain after the stores are re-badged.
The sale marks the latest in an ongoing reduction in the number of Pizza Magia units. The company once had 35 stores, but now appears to have fewer than 20. It recently closed its Louisville production commissary and streamlined its headquarters operations to focus further on opening new operations in India, where it would like to have 100 units.
