Michael Angelos adds cool twist to home delivery: frozen pizzas

April 14, 2004

DEKALB, Ill.—Take-and-bake pizza stores are making their way across the U.S., but home delivery of raw, frozen pizzas is arguably novel.

According to the Midweek News, Frank McCarron, owner of Michael Angelos Pizza and Pasta, Inc., delivers his frozen Take N' Bake Masterpiece pizzas anywhere within a 30-mile radius of his restaurant.

"This is completely original," McCarron said. "There's nobody out there doing this, because the big ones (chains) are real busy. They don't have time to think of what I'm thinking."

After defrosting, McCarron said the pizza can be baked and ready to eat in about 20 minutes. "You don't even have to wait for delivery anymore."

McCarron also sells baked pies, which he delivers uncut.

"It will turn out far superior if you cut it at the house," McCarron said. "You can imagine all that cheese dropping down on the box. Sometimes, you have to peel it off the box." The report didn't say whether he sells or supplies pizza cutters to his customers.

McCarron's grass-roots product trial efforts include dropping off sample pizzas everywhere he goes.

"Everyone who I come in contact with gets a pizza: my printers, the people who did the sign on my truck, the fire departments in the Fox Valley. They have ovens. They all eat pizza. So, we could deliver to 30 fire departments," McCarron said. "Once we get the samples out there, this is limitless. We could put Maple Park on the map, the home of Michael Angelos."
