For most small businesses, reaching 70 years is a dream. For the Zaffiro family, it's a reality they cherish. The family pizzeria, Zaffiro Pizza, recently turned 70, according to a CBS 58 report.
"To carry on what them guys started is very rewarding," Michael Zaffiro, who took over the pizzeria from his father and uncle, told the news outlet
The Zaffiro story began in 1954 in Milwaukee's Third Ward, then a thriving Italian enclave. Two years later, they opened the current location on Farwell Avenue, where the atmosphere and the pizza recipe have remained remarkably consistent.
"That's it," Michael told the news outlet of the recipe. "It's gold now. We don't change anything."
The Zaffiro pizza boasts two signature features: a secret sauce and an extra-thin crust.
Zaffiro's has become a Milwaukee favorite, but its reputation extends beyond the city limits. The restaurant has garnered national recognition for its unique recipe and welcoming ambiance.
