November sales fall slightly at Papa John's Pizza

November 30, 2004

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Papa John's announced in a news release that domestic systemwide comparable sales for the four weeks ended Nov. 21, 2004, decreased 0.2 percent (composed of a 2.7 percent decrease at company-owned units and a 0.6 percent increase at franchise units).

International sales jumped 8.7 percent on a constant U.S. dollar basis, over the comparable period last year.

The month hasn't been the brightest of periods at the No. 3 pizza chain. Despite heavy media promotion, the company's new chicken wings side item doesn't appear to be delivering a much-needed and anticipated sales boost. The company also trimmed 70 members of its corporate staff about two weeks ago (read Papa John's Pizza slashes corporate staff by 13%).
