August 12, 2007

OVERLAND PARK, Kansas Comparable-store sales at NPC International Inc., the worlds largest Pizza Hut franchisee, rose 3.5 percent in the second quarter ended June 26, the company announced. Year-to-date comparable-store sales rose 2 percent.

NPC's net sales rose 16 percent to $171.9 million in the second quarter from $148.7 million in the second quarter of last year. Year-to-date net sales were $345 million, up 11 percent from net sales of $311.6 million in the first six months of 2006.

Net income for the company was $1.4 million for the quarter, up from a loss of $16.1 million in the 2006 second quarter. Year-to-date, NPC's net income was $3.8 million, up from a loss of $0.7 million for the same period last year.

Net income for the quarter was higher than the prior year primarily due to $23.4 million of transaction expenses incurred last year related to Merrill Lynch Global Private Equity's acquisition of the company.

NPC International operates 871 Pizza Hut restaurants and delivery units in 24 states.
