NPC comps up nearly 5 percent

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Comparable-store sales at NPC International, the world's largest Pizza Hut franchisee, increased 4.8 percent for the company's third quarter ended Sept. 23, compared with an increase of 4.9 percent for the 2007 third quarter.
 
Year-to-date comps are up 4.1 percent.
 
Revenues for the company were $186.4 million for the quarter, up 8 percent compared with revenues of $173.3 million for the 2007 third quarter. Year-to-date revenues were $564.1 million, up 9 percent compared with revenues of $518.3 million for the first nine months of last year.
 
Net income for the quarter was $1.1 million, off 42 percent compared with net income of $1.9 million for the 2007 third quarter. For the year to date, net income was $7.3 million, up 30 percent compared with net income of $5.6 million for the same period last year.
 
"This quarter marks our ninth consecutive quarter of comparable store sales growth and a distinctive 39 out of the last 41 quarters," said NPC president and CEO Jim Schwartz. "The Pizza Hut system's increased national advertising presence combined with the new multi-layer marketing strategy including the continued promotion of Tuscani Pasta, continued to drive our top line performance during our third fiscal quarter."
