NPC comps up nearly 5 percent

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Comparable-store sales at Pizza Hut franchisee NPC International Inc. rose 4.9 percent in the third quarter ended Sept. 25, 2007, compared with a comp increase of 0.2 percent for the 2006 third quarter, the company has announced.
 
The comp increase marks the fifth consecutive quarter of comparable-store sales growth for the company.
 
Net sales for the quarter were $173.3 million, up 17 percent compared with net sales of $148 million for the third quarter of 2006. Year-to-date, net sales were $518.3 million, up 13 percent compared with net sales of $459.7 million for the first nine months of 2006.
 
Net income for the quarter was $1.8 million compared with a net loss of $2.4 million for the same period last year. Year-to-date, net income was $5.6 million compared with a loss of $3.1 million for the same period last year.Net income for 2006 included $24 million in transaction expenses that were not replicated this year.
