NPC net off 84 percent

May 13, 2007

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Comparable-store sales at Pizza Hut franchisee NPC International Inc. rose 0.7 percent in the first quarter ended March 27, the company announced.

Revenues for the quarter were $173,088, up 6 percent from revenues of $162,892 for the first quarter of 2006. Net income for the quarter was $2.4 million, off 84 percent from net income of $15.4 million in the 2006 first quarter.

The company attributed much of the net income decline to increased interest expense and increased depreciation and amortization associated with last year's sale of the company, increased income tax expenses due to the company's change from subchapter S to C corporation status, and lower restaurant operating margins.
