NYC pizzerias’ annual food bank fundraiser set

September 23, 2014

The annual Slice Out Hunger fundraiser is scheduled for Oct. 8 starting at 6 p.m. The charity event features $1 pizza slices from New York City pizzerias, including Difara, Lombardi’s, Keste, John’s Pizzeria, Arturo’s, Lucali, NY Pizza Suprema and more.

Participating concepts are expected to donate more than 1,000 pizzas for the occasion. A portion of every dollar raised will be matched by Tumblr, Scott’s Pizza Tours, Joseph Campagna and Sons, Ferrarelle, GreenBox and Brewla Bars with 100 percent of proceeds benefitting Food Bank For New York City.

This year marks the sixth annual Slice Out Hunger event. Last year's pizza party raised $20,000 in just over two hours. According to a news release, this amount funded 100,000 meals for hungry New Yorkers.

The Slice Out Hunger event will be held at St. Anthony’s Church at 154 Sullivan St.

"We're currently experiencing a major trend of treating food as entertainment, we do that with pizza tours, but we're also deeply aware that 2.6 million New Yorkers have difficulty affording food. Slice Out Hunger is our way of using the momentum of food obsession to do some good for people in our community," SOH founder and organizer Scott Wiener said in the release.
