Papa John's opens 100th Russian store

March 16, 2017

Papa John's said in a news release that it now has 100 restaurants open in Russia, including 32 locations that opened last year, according to a news release. Store No. 100 opened in Petersburg March 12, according to a company spokesman.

The chain began operating in the country 14 years ago, as well as in other international locations extending from Siberia to Central Europe. In Russia, Papa John's has 60 company-owned outlets and 40 franchised locations. Additionally, the company said that it expects to have 150 Russian restaurants by year's end.

A news release said that over the last eight years, PJ Western Company — which owns the Master Franchise rights for Russia and Belarus — has reported steady double-digit sales growth each year.

"Papa John's has invested more than $5 million (USD) in the development of Russian agricultural producers since August 2014," PJ Western Company and Papa John's Russia President and CEO Christopher Wynne said in a news release. "These investments enable the brand to leverage local suppliers and ensure the freshest ingredients are delivered to all Papa John's restaurants. Additionally, all suppliers pass several levels of quality control, from regional to international standards."

In all, Papa John's has more than 5,000 restaurants globally in more than 45 countries.
