Papa John's has officially announced it has removed all high fructose corn syrup from all its menu items. The company has been steadily removing other additives from its items, such as partially hydrogenated oils, according to a press release.
"We are proud to announce that Papa John's is the first national pizza chain to remove high fructose corn syrup from our entire food menu," said Sean Muldoon, chief ingredient officer, of Papa John’s. "We've always strived for high-quality ingredients in our pizzas and continue our aggressive push toward cleaner ingredients and menu offerings. We work tirelessly to set the industry’s gold standard for pizza ingredient quality, and this is the next step in fulfilling our promise to deliver better ingredients."
The company has removed a variety of other additives and ingredients including partially hydrogenated oils, MSG, meat fillers, BHA, BHT, cellulose, artificial flavors and synthetic colors. Also, the company plans to remove all antibiotics in its chicken toppings by summer.
The company has invested more than $100 million into improving the quality of its pizzas. In February, it introduced its Quality Guarantee to all customers. Customers who are not satisfied with their pizza will get a replacement for free, according to the release.
