Papa Murphy's inks 15-unit Kansas City deal

VANCOUVER, Wash. — Papa Murphy's Take 'N' Bake Pizza has signed a 15-unit area-development agreement for the Kansas City, Mo., market.

According to a news release, the stores are expected to open over the next five years and add to the 15 Papa Murphy's units operating in the area. The first new unit opening is planned for Leavenworth, Kan., in June, followed by two additional sites later this year.

In 2005 alone, Papa Murphy's plans to open 115 new locations.

"We've seen a trend of strong openings for our locations in the Midwest; residents are responding really well to the convenience of take and bake," said Peter Fowler, vice president of business development at Papa Murphy's. "We're very excited to have found outstanding multi-unit franchise owners who can boost our growth in the Kansas City market."

The new stores will be franchised by Papa's Favorite LLC, and operated by Eric Scoggin and Chris Copp. Scoggin has more than 30 years experience in the restaurant industry, including his most recent position as an executive with Applebee's International. Copp has been a Papa Murphy's franchisee for 20 years.
