CHICAGO — Former Papa John's franchisee Tony Rezko wants to sell his troubled chain of pizzerias.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Rezko renamed his 30 units Papa Tony's Pizza after Papa John's terminated its agreement with him in May. The Louisville, Ky.-based pizza chain said Rezko did not adequately insure his pizzerias and that he was persistently late in paying his commissary bills. Papa John's is now suing Rezko for breaching his franchise agreement.
The Sun-Times now says Rezko is in talks to sell his pizzerias to Paul Ray, a Papa John's franchisee in Milwaukee, who would turn them back into Papa John's.
Ray could not be reached for comment.
