Period 4 comps up 4% at U.S Pizza Hut corp. stores

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Comparable-store sales at 1,729 U.S. corporate Pizza Hut units rose 4 percent for the 4-week period ended March 31, 2005.

According to a regulatory filing, Pizza Hut opened 24 new domestic units, but closed 35 during its first quarter. Parent company Yum! Brands does not report sales numbers at franchise units.

As a sign of strong success for its young WingStreet brand, Yum expects to add more than 300 Pizza Hut and WingStreet dual-brand units to its U.S. system. There currently are 408 such units.

The filing did not make clear how many of those units will be revamped Pizza Huts versus new, purpose-built dual-brand units.
