Pie Five Pizza Co. has announced its expansion into three metropolitan markets, including Chicago, Minneapolis and Houston.
The first Houston-area restaurant, located in Spring, Texas, will open on Dec. 12. Chicago will welcome its first Pie Five in February, while Minneapolis' first unit will debut in March.
"The addition of three more company markets raises our company-owned growth potential to nearly 100 units over the next five to six years," CEO Randy Gier said in a news release. "That's in addition to the more than 300 restaurant openings projected by our franchise partners over the same period."
Topeka, too
Pie Five also announced this week that it will open its sixth Kansas restaurant – in Topeka – on Dec. 12.
Located at 1129 SW Wanamaker Rd. in the Crosswinds Commons Center, the new restaurant will kick off its grand opening celebration at 11 a.m. with a ribbon cutting by the Topeka Chamber of Commerce. The new location is owned by Dave Goebel and KC Pie LLC, which already has locations opened in Lenexa and Overland Park, as well as more planned for 2015.
Goebel is the former CEO of Applebee's. He, along with his wife Jan, sons Kerry and Kevin, and daughter Lyssa, signed at 10-unit Pie Five franchise agreement in May.
The Goebels will present a check to Children's Mercy Hospitals during its grand opening. Pie Five has raised more than $21,000 at each of its restaurants through its ongoing "Mercy Mondays" campaign, in which 5 percent of sales were donated to support the pediatric health center. The campaign will continue at the new Topeka location.
