Pie Five Pizza will host a grand opening Friday for its first location in the Baltimore area. The new restaurant is the brand's second in Maryland and 25th location nationwide. The new unit, franchised by Jeff Mengel, is located in Owings Mills at 10995 Owings Mills Blvd., adjacent to the Stevenson University bookstore.
According to a news release, Mengel previously helped introduce Five Guys Burgers and Fries to the area. The Owings Mills restaurant is the first of up to a dozen Pie Five units he plans to open in his native Baltimore.
Doors will officially open at 11 a.m. on Oct. 10. Pie Five Pizza CEO Randy Gier is flying in from the company's Dallas headquarters for the celebration.
Mengel and his team are donating half of their sales from pre-opening training events held this week to the Living Legacy Foundation, a Baltimore-based organization that facilitates the donation and recovery of human organs and tissues for transplantation and research.
A check presentation will be made on Oct. 17, during a special radio remote with MIX 106.5.
Maryland's first Pie Five restaurant opened in Frederick in late August.
