Pizza brands nationwide are on the move with new openings, beginning with New York City brand, Artichoke Basille's, which will open its second Connecticut restaurant shortly, this one in Hartford, a news release said.

The opening on Asylum Street in the heart of the city follows another opening in the state earlier this year in Newington.

"We couldn't have picked a more exciting and opportune time to open in Hartford, and we know that Artichoke will fit seamlessly into the community as it transforms into a more youthful and contemporary area," franchisee Matt Rusconi, said in the release. "We believe in the future of Hartford and see its immense potential, especially with all the new developments planned for downtown."

Rusconi also plans to open at least three more locations of the brand in Connecticut, though no hard store opening dates were provided for either the Hartford store or any anticipated dates for his other planned locations. The brand currently has 14 stores.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the country, family-centered leading California-based brand, Mountain Mike's Pizza opened of its tenth location in San Jose, California on the corner of Story and King road, a new release

Asmeet Singh, franchisee of the new San Jose Mountain Mike's Pizza location. "Being an integral part of the San Jose community is a top priority for us, and we are grateful to serve smiling pizza lovers every day," franchisee Asmeet Singh said in the release.

Mountain Mikes has 210 locations across California, Oregon, Nevada and Utah.

Lastly, Seattle-based Zeeks Pizza opened a store in Woodinville with a location that serves as the anchor of the city's Woodin Creek Village mixed-use development, a news release said.

"My mother was a green card-holding Italian, so my food roots run deep," Zeeks' newest franchisee, Monica Pavelka, said in the release. "I recently visited her in Italy and was surprised by the sheer amount of bars and pizza places, which sort of serve as social hubs for the neighborhood's residents. The vibe at Zeeks is very similar. In fact, one of the reasons I became a franchisee is to recreate that piece of Italy in Woodinville."

Pavelka and husband, Marco, jointly own the store, one of 17 in the Seattle area.
