Pizza for the Hungry to donate 30,000 slices to homeless shelters

June 17, 2009

MANHATTAN, N.Y. -- Nonprofit multicultural arts company eyeBLINK is donating 2,500 pizzas to homeless shelters in 25 states this week as part of its Pizza for the Hungry campaign, the company has announced.

EyeBlink purchases discounted pizzas from Domino's, payed for by private donations.

The pizzas are served during parties at 40 homeless shelters. Musicians, including drummers, guitarists, jazz musicians, five-piece bands or DJs, provide live music while the pizza is served in the shelters. This creates a fun time and generates joy for those in need.

"In tough times, you need hope. You need a moment when you can forget your cares. So we do that. We donate food, we provide music, people are happy and clapping and dancing," said Obaid Kadwani, the creator of the project. "We buy discounted pizzas from Dominos. For just $1 donation, a person is essentially buying two slices for a shelter guest."
