Pizza Hut is bringing back its popular Detroit-Style pizza just a few months after its initial debut. It's the fastest comeback of any of the company's limited-time offerings in more than a decade, according to a press release.
Pizza Hut says it had to pull advertising for the pizza nearly two weeks early after launch demand exceeded stores' abilities to keep up. The most popular Detroit-Style pizza was the Double Pepperoni. In fact, during the launch, Pizza Hut served up nearly 80 million pepperonis on Detroit-Style pizzas to pizza lovers.
Pizza Hut's Detroit-Style pizza saw unprecedented demand in the product namesake Detroit-area, where the restaurants sold double — sometimes triple — the national average. The launch of Detroit-Style was so big, it created an unprecedented spike in Google searches for the phrase "Detroit-Style Pizza."
"Detroit-Style was a hit from the moment it launched," David Graves, general manager of Pizza Hut, said in the release. "Once it sold out, our customers have been asking for it back. This is actually the fastest we've brought back a pizza in over 10 years."
Detroit-Style pizza will be available exclusively for Hut Rewards today and for the general public beginning tomorrow.
Pizza Hut, a subsidiary of Yum! Brands, Inc., was founded in 1958 in Wichita, Kansas, and operates nearly 18,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries.
