LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Yum! Brands, parent of Pizza Hut, estimated in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing that comparable-store sales at its 1,776 U.S. corporate units rose 3 percent in April. In the comparable period last year, comps dropped 3 percent.
At the end of its first quarter, ended March 20, 2004, Pizza Hut operated 6,371 U.S. stores. During the period it opened 25 new units, but shuttered 54. The chain's international units totaled 4,489 for the same period, when 56 were opened and 32 were closed.
