MUMBAI, India -- The next time select residents of India order pizza delivery, they'll be able to pay with credit or debit cards.
According to The Business Standard, HDFC Bank has launched mobile POS terminals, supported by CDMA technology, in partnership with Reliance Infocomm and POS terminal manufacturer Schlumberger.
The terminals will debut with a Pizza Hut franchisee in Mumbai.
"With this, convergence is available not only to commercial organizations, but also to retail customers," said HDFC Bank managing director Aditya Puri.
The costs per transaction using mobile POS units will be the same as currently charged to merchants and banks.
Neeraj Swaroop, HDFC Bank's head of retail banking, said the cost of mobile POS terminals is around Rs 20,000 (U.S. $435), about the same as normal terminals.
