Pizza Hut Japan has released Rice Pizza, or "Gohan Pizza," to its customers. The pizza trades the company's signature dough for a patty-like rice dough, according to a Sora News report.
The rice base is layered with gouda cheese, toppings and a special sauce. The brand is offering several versions of a Gohan Pizza My Box set with three mini rice pizzas, two chicken nuggets and fries. The boxes are priced at 1,000 yen ($7.40) and 1,350 yen for dine-in.
Pizza Hut said it introduced rice pizza for several reasons, the first being "rice deprivation" — the Japanese people eat 40% less rice than 50 years ago. Rising wheat prices and supply chain issues were also given as reasons.
