Pizza Hut to add 50 India outlets in 18 months

July 9, 2003

MUMBAI, India -- Pizza Hut hopes to double its unit numbers in India to 100 over the next 18 months.

According to Rediff.com, the expansion program would cost more than Rs 75 crore (U.S. $16.2 million) and will make the chain the fastest growing pizza purveyor in India.

Currently there are 50 Pizza Huts in 15 major cities in India. The chain opened its first outlet on the subcontinent in 1996.

A Pizza Hut spokesperson said the chain serves 38,000 customers daily and claims to own a 50 percent share of India's ready-to-eat pizza market.

Opening a Pizza Hut in India costs Rs 1.25-1.5 crore (U.S. $270,000 to $324,000) per outlet.
