Pizza Hut to sell 2.5 million pizzas on Super Bowl Sunday

February 1, 2007

DALLAS — Pizza Hut said it expects to sell 2.5 million pizzas on Super Bowl Sunday, about 65 percent more than on a typical Sunday.

According to a news release, the chain will have more employees working Feb. 4 at its 6,600 domestic restaurants than there are seats in both the RCA Dome and Soldier Field, home to the Indianapolis Colts and the Chicago Bears, respectively.

"More than 80 percent of our delivery and carryout orders on Super Bowl Sunday are expected to occur by halftime," said Bill Ogle, Pizza Hut chief marketing officer. The company's Web site offers advance ordering at participating locations.

Additional figures about the busiest day of the year at Pizza Hut:
  • If each slice of Pizza Hut pizza sold on Super Bowl Sunday were placed end to end, the trail would stretch the path of the next four Super Bowls — Miami (2007) to Glendale, Ariz. (2008), to Tampa Bay (2009) and back to Miami (2010).
  • If every Pizza Hut employee working on Super Bowl Sunday lay head to toe, they could cover more than three-fourths the distance between Soldier Field and the RCA Dome.
  • Pizza Hut delivery drivers will cover 5.3 million miles on Super Bowl Sunday, enough for 213 trips around Earth.
  • Pizza Hut expects to receive more than 2.5 million game-day phone calls for orders.
  • Pepperoni is the most requested pizza topping, followed by Italian sausage and extra cheese.
