Pizza Hut has opened the box on what it called its biggest launch of the year — Detroit-style pizza — a rectangular-shaped pie with edge-to-edge cheese, lots of toppings with tomato sauce on top, which keeps the crust light and airy, according to a company press release.
The company said it spent more than a year testing 500 renditions of Detroit-style pizza from across the nation. Its four offerings include double pepperoni with 80 slices on each pizza, as well as double cheesy, meaty deluxe (bacon, sausage and pepperoni) and Supremo with sausage, red onions and green bell peppers.
Detroit-style pizza was born in the middle of the last century and is traditionally topped with Wisconsin brick cheese with the tomato sauce on top. Pizza Hut does not include brick cheese in its pies, however.
The pies are available nationwide at $10.99 each.
There are 18,000 Pizza Hut locations globally and the brand is based in Plano, Texas.
