Pizza Magia streamlines operations, focuses on India

Business First of Louisville: Twenty-four unit, Louisville, Ky.-based Pizza Magia is outsourcing its commissary operations and accounting arm as part of a continuing effort to trim costs. The April move reduced its corporate staff from 15 to six.

"Support systems are usually the places to save money," said Pizza Magia chief executive Dan Holland. A former president of Papa John's pizza, Holland left the No. 3 chain in 1995. "Our business model right now is selling franchises and selling corporate stores, and you don't need a lot of space to do that."

Pizza Magia's unit count peaked in 2002, when it had 35 outlets. Holland wouldn't share revenue numbers, but he said sales increased by about 12 percent in 2004.
