Pizzeria idea of the week: Pizza boxes as pet savers

July 18, 2019

A small New Jersey pizza shop is garnering national attention today after Angelo's Pizza in Matawan last week began using their pizza boxes to do some community good by posting flyers publicizing local missing pet information, according to CBS New York

The signs are taped to every box sent out, including the 500 or so that have gone out in the past week. The initiative started when the pizzeria's owner, John Sanfratello, learned of a missing cat in his area that looked like a pet he had once lost, too, triggering his desire to help.

Already, the first 500 boxes went out publicizing the loss of a 10-month old puppy in-training to be a seeing eye dog as well as a local cat that disappeared. The owner said he'll continue the practice until all the state's missing pets are found, according to the CBS report. In fact, the owner's sister who owns a number of Florida pizzerias has also begun the practice.
