POS expenditures to reach $5.8 billion in 2007

March 5, 2007

FRANKLIN, Tenn. — The PC-based point-of-sale market in North America experienced an 8 percent shipment increase in 2006, according a new study released by IHL Consulting Group.

The largest boost came from shipments to new stores for specialty retailers and restaurants, specifically the casual dining and coffee/donuts segments. These trends are expected to continue through 2007, according to IHL's 2007 North American Retail POS Terminal Study.

The study says retailers in all vertical segments are seeing a larger impact due to governmental action, and recent security breaches are playing an increasing role in the POS purchase decision-making process.

The study also reviews market shipment and installed base figures, market value, situation analysis for 10 retail-market segments, overall trends affecting the POS market, and forecasts through 2011.
