Potter, founder of Eagle Boys Pizza, inducted into Aussie hall of fame

MELBOURNE, Australia -- Tom Potter, founder and managing director of 150-store Eagle Boys Pizza, was inducted into the Franchise Council of Australia Hall of Fame on Sept. 6.

According to a news release, Potter, 39, was the youngest of this year's inductees.

The hall of fame recognizes business operators who have made significant contributions to the franchise sector.

"The past 16-plus years have been quite a journey for Eagle Boys, and it is an honor that Australia's peak franchise organization recognizes the achievements," Potter told the gathering. "Eagle Boys has come up against some tough competition from U.S.-based multi-national giants, and we have battled through this competition to become one of the premium franchise systems in Australia."

In 1996 Eagle Boys won the FAANZ Award for Master Franchise of the Year. It also received New South Wales' and Queensland's Franchise of the Year awards in 1996, 1997 and 1998. In 1994, the Australian Financial Review named Potter the Australian Young Business Person of the Year.

Potter, who is one of Australia's richest people under 40, started Eagle Boys in 1987. In 2002, the trendsetting chain pioneered a successful "two-minutes or free" Instant Pizza system.
