Puget Sound Papa John's fundraiser 'overwhelming'

December 9, 2009

Response to Puget Sound-area Papa John's stores donating Tuesday's and Wednesday's profits to families of slain Lakewood police officers has been overwhelming "from an operational and emotional standpoint," according to one area Papa John executive quoted by The Seattle Times.

Matt Edwards, who oversees operations for 10 of the 42 stores involved, had originally estimated being able to donate about $20,000 to the cause after the fundraising efforts, but he expects that number to increase.

From the Seattle Times:
Orders poured in at such a pace that some Seattle-area shops couldn't take new orders Wednesday afternoon, said Edwards.

‘We received over 10,000 orders in the Puget Sound area Tuesday. That's about 5 1⁄2 times the typical Tuesday,' said Tish Muldoon, a spokeswoman for Kentucky-based Papa John's.
