Punxsy Pizza celebrated its 20th anniversary of the Pizza and Prevention fundraiser this year with the sale of 5,050 coupons for pizza with proceeds going to the Punxsutawney Fire Department. Owner Scott Anthony came up with the idea after 9/11, according to a news report in The Courier Express.
During the past two Octobers, guests have been able to buy Pizza and Prevention tickets from three local fire departments.
Firefighters are usually in the kitchen helping to make and bake pizzas but haven't the last two years due to COVID. That hasn't stopped them from offering smoke detectors, however.
"We are dedicated to being a community-minded business, and feel that the Pizza & Prevention is a 'Win-Win' for all involved," Scott Anthony, owner of Punxsy Pizza told Pizza Marketplace. "We believe this will benefit our community and give due respect to our hometown heroes, the Punxsutawney Fire Department. Family pizza night adds a sense of normalcy to the routine of our lives during this stressful pandemic."
He added: "it's been an honor to be part of these 20 years of giving."
