Robotics engineers turn to pizzeria for inspiration
July 26, 2009
Engineers at Osaka University in Japan, searching for ways to improve dexterity in robots, are studying the way Italian chefs manipulate a pizza peel, according to a story in New Scientist magazine.
Scientists realized that a pizza chef can only move the peel back and forth and by twisting the pole, but those two motions allow the chef to manipulate the pizza with great precision.
