Columbus Post-Dispatch: Rotolo's Pizza is the definitive independent pizzeria. After 30 years in operation by founders Luigi and Mafalda Rotolo, the company had one unit. Now the family wants to expand, and it has the backing of a restaurant-industry heavy hitter.
Two Rotolos were added last year, and "We want at least two more this year,' said Dominic Rotolo, the founders son. Eventually, he said, there might be as many as 10 shops in central Ohio, each selling the signature pizza along with lasagna, rigatoni and spaghetti from Mrs. Rotolo's recipes.
David Karam, president of Cedar Enterprises, a restaurant-franchise company whose business includes 152 Wendy's units, is a longtime Rotolo's fan and friend. He and another Wendy's franchisee, Gary Rozanczyk are stepping in to support Rotolo's expansion with the necessary capital.
