ATLANTA -- Sales of foodservice equipment, furniture, supplies and tabletops throughout the United States were down for the first quarter of 2003, according to a news release from the Manufacturers' Agents for the Food Service Industry (MAFSI).
Sales in Canada, the release said, saw a modest increase of 1.1 percent, and are expected to rise 2.3 percent in the second quarter.
MAFSI reps from across the U.S. and Canada forecast a decrease in overall sales of 0.8 percent, compared to the same period last year.
In detail, MAFSI'sBusiness Barometer Survey revealed that during Q1 '03 overall, equipment sales decreased 2.3 percent, supply and tabletop sales decreased 1.8 percent, while furniture sales decreased 1.3 percent.
Manufacturers' representatives were surveyed from agencies across the United States and Canada for the survey. The quarterly survey is a leading economic indicator in the foodservice industry that provides national and regional sales trends forecasts.
