Sbarro ready to debut fast casual concept: Pizza Cucinova

Columbus, Ohio, will be home to Sbarro's new fast casual concept, Pizza Cucinova. According to Columbus Business First, two units are planned in the market, with a fall opening date.

Sbarro's new president, David Karam, said the concept will feature pizzas, entrée salads and signature desserts, and also will sell alcohol. It will have a fast casual setup, with a queue to select and order, pay at the register, and then sit down to receive the food.

Karam told the publication that the fast casual segment has longterm appeal and Sbarro wants to build a brand with "real staying power."
