Shakey's signs Nevada development deal

April 13, 2009

LOS ANGELES -- Shakey's Pizza is returning to Nevada with five restaurants scheduled to open over the next five years, the first of which is slated to open in Las Vegas in January 2010. Spearheading Shakey's Nevada expansion is Las Vegas-based contractor and developer Larry Monkarsh.

Monkarsh also has secured the Shakey's franchise rights in St. George, Utah, Northwestern Arizona and throughout Southern Nevada.

Originally conceived in the 1950s as a destination in which friends and families could gather for hot pizza, cold beer and sing-along ragtime music, the new stores will embrace the original concept with a modern spin - including arcade games, big screen TVs, classic American music and pop-culture memorabilia. The restaurant design will feature Shakey's traditional long tables to accommodate larger parties and community dining as well as intimate booths for smaller groups and families.

All restaurants will have an open-kitchen, complete with "dough making theater" and will offer a refreshed menu featuring Shakey's classic pizzas, fried chicken and Mojo potatoes, along with new gourmet pizzas including Texas BBQ Chicken, Rustic Garlic Chicken, a light and fresh Margherita variety and The Firehouse, a spicy meat-lover's pizza.
