Streetza uses hashtag to push healthy pie

January 21, 2010

How do you reinvent healthy pizza? Use really fresh ingredients. Then name it after a Twitter hashtag. That was the apparent reasoning of Scott Baitinger, partner at Milwaukee's Streetza, a trendy gourmet pizzeria and food truck. He was involved in creating the "Fit Milwaukee" weight loss and fitness challenge Web site erected last year, which was followed by an enduringly popular hash tag -- #fitmke. That name also proved the perfect title for Baitinger's recently debuted healthy pizza.

Baitinger said #fitmke pizza, which comes in spinach/mushroom, veggie, chicken sausage as well as Mediterranean incarnations, is made with the freshest veggies and some chicken sausage that "is surprisingly good." All offerings are 1/16 of a 16-inch pizza for $3.75, and range from 155 – 300 calories a slice. For a limited time, a whole pie is available for $15.
