The Pizza Co. eyes booming Philippines market

ABS-CBN News: Thailand-based The Pizza Co. wants to open the first of 50 planned outlets in the Philippines next month.

A person familiar with the transaction told "Today" the franchise was bought by Jun Pelaez, nephew of the late Philippine Vice President Emmanuel Pelaez, from publicly listed company Minor Food Group Public Co. Ltd. (MFG).

The franchise purchase comes at a booming time for the pizza market in the country. Among the pizza franchises in the Philippines are Pizza Hut, Shakey's and Jollibee Food Corp.'s Greenwich. Others include Di Mark's Pizza, Papa Heinz and Lotsa Pizza.
