The power of pizza prevails at Calif. high school

October 1, 2002

BERKELEY, Calif. -- Pizza returned to the lunchroom menu at a California high school after students chose it over healthier meal offerings.

According to a brief in the New York Post, Berkeley High School had invited local restaurants to sell dishes such as organic pork tacos and hormone-free chicken sandwiches in the hope the students would eat healthier, said the school's principal, Michele Lawrence.

But after sales in the school cafeteria dropped 33 percent last year, pizza was brought back.
