U.S. foodservice equipment sales down 1.1%, says MAFSI Business Barometer

ATLANTA—According to the Business Barometer of the Manufacturers' Agents Association for the Foodservice Industry (MAFSI), all regions of the U.S. reported an overall 1.1 percent decrease in equipment and tabletops sales for third quarter 2003, compared to the same period in 2002.

Canada reported an increase of 2.8 percent over the same period in 2002.

Looking toward the fourth quarter 2003, MAFSI reps from across the U.S. and Canada forecast no growth in sales.

In detail, the Barometer revealed that:

  • Equipment sales decreased 1.4 percent
  • Supply sales decreased 0.8 percent
  • Tabletop sales decreased 0.7 percent
  • Furniture sales increased +1.1 percent
  • Overall sales were off 1.1 percent
