US pizzeria foot traffic up 27% since January

Pizza is rapidly becoming the nation's top dish, if not already, according to the data crunchers at Zenreach, who found that from Jan. 1 to April 30 this year, foot traffic at pizza restaurants has soared 27%, according to an email from the research company.

Zenreach monitors a network of 7.4 million pizza consumers, allowing it to get a good picture of how, where and why pie-lovers are consuming their beloved concoction. Some of the most interesting results of the analysis came in the form of state peculiarities related to pizza restaurant visits, including:

• 77% increase in pizza visits in California.
• 92.4% increase in such visits in Los Angeles alone.
• 42% increase In Illinois pizzeria visits.
• 41% growth in New York visits.
• Mild increases in states like Arizona (8%) and Florida (7.5%).
