Wisconsin assembly passes bill against potential obesity lawsuits

February 29, 2004

GREEN BAY--The Wisconsin Assembly approved a bill on Feb. 26 to protect restaurants and food distributors from potential lawsuits filed by people who claim those companies' products made them fat.

According to The Associated Press, no one has ever filed such a lawsuit in Wisconsin, but the bill's sponsor, Representative Dan Vrakas, said the state's legislature should protect restaurants and food-related businesses from similar lawsuits filed in New York.

The bill still needs approval from the Senate and the governor to become law.
